BOSTON -- Stephen Strasburg struck out 13 in six innings, Bryce Harper homered, and the Washington Nationals beat the Boston Red Sox, 7-4, on Friday night for the franchise's first victory at Fenway Park.
Harper hit a two-run shot in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth as the club improved to 1-9 in Boston. The Montreal Expos dropped all six games there before moving to Washington.
Strasburg (7-1) threw a career-high 119 pitches, including 33 in his final inning when he escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam. He finished one strikeout shy of his career high, set two years ago Friday against Pittsburgh in his debut.
Strasburg struck out five straight and seven of eight during a stretch from the third inning to the fifth. He gave up two runs and four hits, improving to 4-0 with a 2.74 ERA in his past four starts.
N.Y. Yankees 9, N.Y. Mets 1: Robinson Cano homered twice and hit one of three straight homers off Johan Santana, who pitched a no-hitter in his previous start. Hiroki Kuroda (5-6) allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings before leaving with a bruised left foot.
Philadelphia 9, Baltimore 6: Shane Victorino homered and drove in five runs as the visiting Phillies ended a six-game slide.
Tampa Bay 5, Miami 1: Former Tiger Matt Joyce homered, doubled and scored three runs for the Rays. The Marlins were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and are 1-for-28 in those situations during their home stand, losing all four games. Former Tigers minor leaguer Burke Badenhop (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings for the win.
Milwaukee 9, San Diego 5: Corey Hart hit two homers, rookie Martin Maldonado added a three-run shot and Taylor Green a two-run homer for the host Brewers.
L.A. Angels 7, Colorado 2: Torii Hunter homered twice and drove in six runs for the visiting Angels. Rookie Mike Trout had three hits and scored three times.
Atlanta 4, Toronto 3 (10 innings): Jason Heyward stole third and scored on catcher J.P. Arencibia's throwing error as host Atlanta won its fifth in a row.
Notebook: Former Lansing Waverly standout John Smoltz had his No. 29 retired by the Braves in a ceremony before Friday's game. Former manager Bobby Cox called Smoltz "the biggest of the big-game pitchers." As general manager, Cox acquired Smoltz from the Tigers in 1987 for right-hander Doyle Alexander. Smoltz was 213-155 with 154 saves and a 3.33 ERA. In the postseason, Smoltz was 15-4 with a 2.67 ERA and four saves. Smoltz joins Cox (6), Tom Glavine (47), Greg Maddux (31), Dale Murphy (3), Phil Niekro(35), Hank Aaron (44), Eddie Mathews (41) and Warren Spahn(21) as Braves with retired numbers.
